1. Colorado Springs is a Big Suburb
Colorado Springs is not a large city. If you are looking for a big city feel like Atlanta or Denver, you will be quickly disappointed. Our downtown doesn’t have huge skyscrapers or many different areas to explore. In reality we are like a large suburb. Currently our population is around 677,000 and growing.
2. Colorado Springs Bipolar Weather
It is true. The weather can change rapidly in Colorado Springs. It can be sunny and 70 degrees one day and snowing and 32 degrees the next. You can be sitting in your backyard enjoying your glass of wine here in Colorado Springs in March getting a sun tan, and the next minute you may be running inside as the wind picks up and the front comes off of the mountain range. Colorado Springs does boast over 300+ days of sun, but be prepared for 4 seasons. We have Summer, Fall, Springs, and Winter seasons each year. Does it snow here in Colorado Springs. Yes. But it also melts quickly, which may be different than some cities in the midwest.

Colorado has an abundance of rivers, but we are lacking in lakes. Most people in Colorado Springs with boats head to the Pueblo reservoir or Blue Mesa for a day or weekend of boating. If you are looking for lake life with houses & docks, this probably isn’t your city. But if you are looking for a backdrop that looks like a postcard, with mountains over looking your home city, this might be the place for you!
Now before you quickly disagree with the lack of fall color here in Colorado, let us quickly explain. In the midwest, fall color consists of huge trees with bright red, orange and yellow leaves. Painting the fall with a mirage of colors. Here is Colorado, our main fall color is yellow. Aspens produce fields of gold with the mountains as backdrops, which is stunning. But if you are looking for that midwest or eastern feel of a mulitude of color, we may be lacking.
5. The Colorado Springs Moth Migration
Yep – that is right moths. Each year around May the moths migrate through Colorado Springs up into the mountains. Each year the number of moths vary, some years worse than the other.
