The pros and cons of living in Colorado Springs (Summer Edition)

Is Colorado Springs calling your name to make it your home? Then weighing the pros and cons of living here could be a critical part of your decision to move here. Here we list the summer edition of the pros and cons of living in Colorado Springs starting with the cons.

The cons of living in Colorado Springs

The lifestyle

If you are a city person, moving to Colorado Springs could feel like a really big change. However, once you settle in, you’ll start loving the calm lifestyle that Colorado Springs offers. And if you are a person who likes the calmness of living near the mountains, then Colorado Springs is a great place to consider living.

The Weather

Even though it may look like, the sun is always out, it isn’t as hot as you might expect. The clouds will roll in to cool off the hot part of the day. However, if you are a morning person who wants to hike, there’s a good chance that we could get some rain by late afternoon. If you have planned an outdoor birthday party, it’d be wise to have it in the morning or early afternoon to escape the rain.

Another negative about the climate is the dryness. Although this is usual throughout the year, you may experience it more in the summer. You would want to stock up on your sunscreens and Cetaphil moisturisers as since we are higher up in elevation, you tend to burn easily. So loading up on sunscreen throughout the day is recommended. You would also want to moisturise yourself frequently because of the dryness.

Water

The biggest con about living in Colorado Springs, however, is that you can only water three days a week as we don’t have an endless supply of water here in Colorado and it gets expensive if you are not careful. Even though your utility bill covers both electricity and gas too, water makes up a big part of the bill. If you have a leaky toilet or dripping taps at your home in Colorado Springs, it is definitely worth getting it checked quickly as you might rack up hundreds in bills in just a couple of days if left unchecked.

Messy Cars

Since Colorado Springs is a place where you spend most of your time outdoors, you may end up having messy cars. Especially if you have kids, this is mostly the case. Oftentimes, we find ourselves throwing in fishing poles, swimsuits, things for work and more in the back of the car as we are always doing something or the other throughout the day outdoors.

You will also find that you have to go via dirt roads almost all the time when you are not in the city. Whether it’s to drive down to Palmer Lake or to go to Eagle Lake Camp, you have to drive by the dirt roads in the mountains which will splash back on your car.

The pros of living in Colorado Springs

The outdoor activities

Changing tracks to the pros. We have a lot of these in Colorado Springs. It is a haven for people who like being outdoors most of the time. You’ll find both adults and kids alike playing outside and doing a lot of stuff all in one park like volleyball, sunbathing, fishing, kayaking, you name it!

Colorado Springs is getting bigger

Because of how much and how fast Colorado Springs is growing, more and more businesses are setting up here. We’re making our road to the map – we have a new soccer stadium downtown that overlooks Pike’s Peak front range and we just booked tickets for an Old Dominion concert here. With the mountains and some of the venues coming to Colorado Springs, there’s no looking back.

Cool mornings

If you are a morning person, you will particularly love this pro about Colorado Springs. As we have cool mornings, you can always go for nice morning walks. You can also get other household work, like gardening and yard work, done in the mornings without sweating too much. Although it does get hot in the afternoon, it’s not unbearable and you can still go out to do something fun. The weather eventually will cool off towards the evening as you are indoors, sometimes even making you want to wear a sweatshirt!

No bugs

If you are someone who runs the opposite way when someone mentions bugs, you are going to love it in Colorado Springs! You can comfortably sit outside in the summer and have absolutely no bugs bother you. We love being able to sit outside and not have to worry about bug spray. In fact, I have never even bought a bottle of bug spray in the time that I’ve been here.

The patios

There are so many cool patios here in Colorado Springs. The ViewHouse has an amazing view where you can sit out on the patio there and have an amazing berry salad. The La’au’s Taco Shop also have a fun little patio and also there’s O’Malley’s who have burgers, fish and chips along with an incredible view.

Even though you use the patios for only six to nine months in a year, they go all out to set up these amazing patios here in downtown Colorado Springs. Along the whole of Tejon street, everybody has patios on the front. In fact, one of our special Olympics teams and the new Weidner Field downtown is going to have a restaurant on the corner. With apartments coming up around it with a restaurant on the corner, the views will be spectacular.

A fab weekend idea would be to go for a hike or a nice outdoor activity in the morning, and then come back to a nice early dinner on a patio. There are also tons of breweries that you can check out.

Tourist destination

One of the other pros, which you already might know about, is that Colorado Springs is a huge tourist destination. If you look at all the tourist spots here, Colorado Springs is better than almost anywhere in our state because of all that we have to offer here.

You know it’s tourist season when the traffic increases because our little town couldn’t support the amount of people. You have all the highways, byways, walking trails all of those things to handle a big group of people though. However, if you want to go about and see and do the touristy things, you could go on a weekday with your kids and family to avoid the rush.
