One of the pros of living in Colorado, is the easy access to the outdoors. Neighborhoods in Colorado Springs, such as Rockrimmon and Manitou Springs have hiking trails right outside their backyard. Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, provides hiking trails for miles with magnificient views of the city. It was recently ranked the #1 park in the USA. A great outdoor free activity for families is Garden of the Gods.

Biking: The Santa Fe Trail runs all the way up and down the front range of Colorado Springs and runs throughout the city.

Skiing: It is important to know that skiing is not immediatly accessible for those in the Colorado Springs area. Most skiing is about a 2 hour drive from the Colorado Springs area. Downtown Colorado Springs, does have a skating rink for residents in the winter months as well.

2. Pro: The Colorado Springs View

Colorado is known for its beauty. The city of Colorado Springs, is situated closer to the mountain range than cities like Denver. Pike Peak mountain is literally right in our back yard. The cog railway will open up Summer 2021, which will allow people to take a train to the top of Pikes Peak. Passengers will catch the railway in Manitou Springs.

3. Pro: The Colorado Micro Breweries

Colorado is knows for its breweries. And living in Colorado Springs is no different. Breweries such as the Goat Patch, Bristol Breweries, Pikes Peak Brewing, and many more are every where in our city. If you love your brewskies, Colorado Springs is a place for you! Bring your growler!

4. Pro: Size of Colorado Springs

Living in Colorado Springs, you will notice that we are not a large, huge city. We are a quickly growing smaller city. We don’t have the sprawling suburbs, such as Denver. Colorado Springs, currently is comparable to a really large suburb. You won’t feel the congestion as you might in a large city. If you are wanting that large metropolitan feel, Denver is only a quick 60 minute drive north of Colorado Springs.

1. Con: The Colorado Springs Wind and Mud

Colorado Springs is known for its 300 plus days of sunshine. However, we also have wind. As a front comes in, the wind picks up and can produce many windy days, espeically in the spring as the weather is changing quickly. Wind gust can reach 50+ miles per hour. Mud is also common in the spring, as the snow melts off of the mountain. And our dirt is red, so it creates for a muddy mess at times. Make sure to have your boots ready!

2. Con: The Colorado Springs is Dry!

Colorado Springs is a very dry climate! One of the biggest complaints of travelers to the area, besides the atlititude (6000 plus feet above sea level, higher than Denver, Colorado) is how dry our climate is here in Colorado Springs. If you are thinking of visiting or living in the Colorado Springs area, make sure you bring your lotion and chapstick! With zero humidity, you will notice a difference!

3. Con: Traffic

Although, we aren’t a huge metropolitan area, with traffic like a LA or Denver, we do have our fair share of congested traffic. As our small city, continues to grow quickly, we struggle to keep up with infrastructure such as roads. Colorado Springs has one major highway, I25, which runs north and south along the front range. As a city, we continue to expand other major roads, such as Powers and Academy, however, we are a city of stoplights. It is hard to get from one end of town to the other, without running into 20+ stoplights on the way! Plan accordingly during rush hour!
